Day 5 -- Italian Riviera, Barolo wine tasting.
To break up the bus trip to the next city, we stop first at the Castle of Grinzane Cavour.
The view, as always, is picturesque.
The grapes were all heavy on the vine wherever we went. Kimberly samples one.
They had threatened rain throughout the trip, but the weather mainly held for us.
The back side of the castle. Glass windows have been added for the restaurant area.
Inside is a small museum of winemaking implements from the old days.
Most of the wineries have revamped their processes using modern equipment, but it is still a labor-intensive production.
This is the room where they have the annual auction of the white truffle harvest. Nowadays, of course, the bidding is online, but the room is still the headquarters.
We move on to the Francone Winery and meet our hostess.
She takes us on a tour, showing us the aging processes in bottles...
...and in casks.
Another light lunch, another veal tonatto (I guess it is a regional favorite).
As always, more day drinking as we sample three of their wines.
They serve us a pasta dish, and of course, some more meats and cheeses.
Walking around town, Kimberly stops for a picture with Superman.
The smallest shower ever: you cannot bend over at all, and you have to fold the doors in to use the toilet.
At least the bed was comfortable.
