Day 6 -- Cinque Terra.
Today we visit Cinque Terre, or the five lands. We start with a train ride.
Watch out for pickpockets.
Kimberly with the train inside...
...and outside.
Cinque Terre is known as a hiking national preserve, besides just the five towns.
We start our visit to the first city, Riomaggiore, with a trip to this bar...
...where we have a drink and a light lunch on a terrace.
It overlooks the train tunnel on this side...
...and the sea and a pedestrian walkway on this side.
It just opens out onto this section of the Mediterranean Sea.
We are under a little canopy while we have our repast.
Some focaccia bread with a pesto, and of course more meat and cheese. Oh, yes, and wine for lunch.
We take a train skipping cities two and three, and going to Vernazza.
A tidal connector to the sea.
There is not much to do in Vernazza, so we walk about.
At a little inlet with a small beach, Wade wanders out onto the rock jetty.
Shots back from the jetty showing the local church and the boats tied up.
You have to be a hearty sort to climb up to this bar.
Inside the little church.
Looking out from the church.
We did get a little rain in the last city.
Instead of taking the train back, the weather held enough to take a boat back.
Walking along the beach to the dock area.
The lovely couple.
Here's the boat we are taking back.
Monterosso al Mare.
Vernazza.
Corniglia.
Manarola.
