Rotorua is a town with a large indigenous (Maori) population. It sits on this gorgeous lake with an island in the center.
In the lake are these beautiful black swans.
The traditional Maori feast is called Hangi. At the Hangi dinner, the leader of our tribe (Walter) is greeted by the leader of the Maori tribe.

Maori traditional song and dance are presented after dinner.
Then the audience is invited to try. Here is Kimberly learning to do a tribal dance using a ball on a string.
It's a little dark, but here is Wade learning to look mean and ugly as part of the traditional "challenge" dance.

In this church is a beautiful etched glass of Christ as a Maori, walking on the water of the sea behind the church. This scan does not do it justice, but it is quite striking.
