They rest of our group was arriving during the day, but Kimberly had arranged for us to have
a walking tour and boat ride in Porto.
We meet up in front of what used to be a prison, and is now the photography museum.
We go walking to this overlook of the city.
The views across Porto.
The Clerigos church, a popular landmark.
Kimberly in front of her fountain of lions.
Next to the university is this array of shops with gardens on top.
In front of the Livraria Lello bookstore.
Some say that J.K. Rowlings was inspired by this during her time in Porto...
...but Rowling supposedly denies this.
A quick bite of lunch at a local cafe.
On we go to the main square, the Placa da Liberdade.
This overdone McDonald's is just off the square.
It has old art deco decorations from its previous use.
Here is the lobby of the train station next to our hotel.
It is done is these blue-and-white tiles depicting various scenes.
Some represent battles, or religious life, or country scenes.
Looking through here, you can see that it is actually a working train station.
Just outside the station, the traffic is re-routed around this construction for the new
pink line of the metro.
Walking up the hill to the cathedral (they are always at the top of the hill).
The front view of the cathedral.
Kimberly couldn't find a lion to kiss, and has to settle for this cow.
You can see the original city walls off to the left here as we go across this bridge.
This is a double-decker bridge over the Douro River, and gives marvelous views of Porto.
Looking toward the upper cable car station; you can see the cars to the right.
Back toward the bridge: we came across the top span of this bridge.
Hopping into our cable car...
...and descending down into the harbor area. The ships on the right are small cask ships.
A street artist has made various animals throughout the city by recycling trash items.
Our ship for our short cruise up and down the bridges of the Douro.
Cruising back toward the bridge we walked across.
Another, more-modern, bridge.
That night, we meet up with our tour group for a welcome dinner.
Chicken and mushrooms. We kept asking if the dish had a name, and four times we were told,
"It is chicken."
Our first of many preparations of salted cod, or bacalhau.
A gelee dessert.
