We wanted to do an early Thanksgiving dinner this year, and we have been wanting to try Jeune et Jolie
in Carlsbad, so we went the Thursday before Thanksgiving and had a wonderful meal.
We had a lovely leisurely drive down the coast, and we were treated to a beautiful sunset.
An amuse bouche.
Un: cherry tomatoes and baby strawberries with a granita added tableside.
Un: veal tartare. dashi gelee, wakame, apple horseradish.
Bread course: each of us received the cutest little brioche mini-loaf. It pulled apart into
three little rolls, and came with apple butter.
Deux: chanterelle mushroom tart, date, buckwheat, goat's milk.
Deax: scallop with smoked eel. The "noodles" that are with it are actually butternut squash strips that
eat like pillowy noodles.
Trois: ricotta gnudi with summer squash, corn, and a tempura-battered sqaush flower on top.
Trois: duck with burgundy truffle sauce and fig reduction.
It came with a sunchoke puree with sunchoke chips in it, that was absolutely fantastic.
Quatre: the cheese course. Definitely not the highlight, but this was the funkiest cheese ever
(epoisse), melted over fingerling potatoes and roasted sunflower seeds.
Quatre: kaki: a blonde chocolate panna cotta in the center with the creamiest texture, surrounded
by persimmon bites and a variety of crunchy bits. Definitely a highlight.
The night's menu, with the exception of the last-minute substitution of the duck for the quail.
